First ever single I bought was 'popcorn' by Hot Butter!!
First punk single was probably a Clash single??? I didn't have much money in those days so used to mostly tape Steven Gee's punk singles that he would buy every saturday in Guy Norris...

'Go,Buddy,Go' by the Stranglers along with 'God Save the Queen'. I think that I may have had to wait until they hit the bargain bin. Followed by 'Cranked up Really Hight' by Slaughter and the Dogs. 'Life on Mars' was the very first single I ever purchased though.

Bang Bang, and i thought it was great !! "Bang fooking bang-ah, we are the Mighty Fall-ah!" Loved that line from one of the early live Fall albums, and I always think of it whenever i hear the BA Robinson single on the radio or wherever... I think it might also have been a slight influence on martin, the old Stripey Zebras singer, who used to introduce us as "We are mighty, we are stripey, we are Zebras..." So I guess Stripey Zebras could claim an indirect BA Robinson influence... If we so wished... which I doubt we collectively (those of us who are left) do...

Mine was "Go Buddy Go" too and more followed very quickly. Recordworld was my record shop of choice. I remember when the punk singles occupied just a small cardborad box on the counter. The guy in there used to play me the new releases when they came in. I remember buying "Prove it" by Television after he played it to me. I love Television to this day, but I confess to be impressed by the 12" green vinyl at the time!
The first single I actually bought was "Ball Park Incident" by Wizzard.

Must admit to being a tight-ass back in the day, well i didn't have a job, so recorded most things. My first punk era single was "All around the world" by the Jam. First single was "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison Yeah, the coloured vinyl was pretty impressive, my first coloured may have been "Im an Upstart" by The Angelic Upstarts. Think it was orange.

The first Punk era single I got was Gary Gilmore's Eyes by The Adverts - It affected me so profoundly I had to immediately buy it with my paper round money!, and Guy Norris was the place! My first coloured vinyl was ' The Day The World Turned Dayglo' by X Ray Spex - a truly amazing record in every sense! My first ever single I think I was Slade's 'Cum on Feel The Noize', although I always had a dual loyalty with The Sweet, who to this day I think are still outstanding! Going back to The Adverts, I think the very performance of Gary Gilmore I saw is on You Tube at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBv-oDuf23QIf you haven't seen this site yet, be warned, it's amazingly addictive! Just type in X Ray Spex etc and see what there is!

Yeah paper round money didn't go very far, so there was a lot of taping off John Peel. In those days he used to play whole albums when they were released, which was handy!
Guy Norris was good too. I remember seeing a video of Magazine's "The Light Pours Out of Me" in there. I also bought the first Buzzcocks LP in there. I was 10p short, but my art teacher came into the shop and I borrowed it from him. He was agreat guy, actually. He went to college with some of the Rezillos and when he went to see them play in London be brought back a picture sleeve signed by Jo Callis.

First punk single was EMI Anarchy from keddies bargain bin, 33p ! my niece took a bite of it and left teeth marks in it, so I did a trade with Steve Miln for 10 other punk records. Brought it again recently from record museum for a £10. First ever single was yummy! yummy!yummy! and Lilly the pink on a mfp ep that they used to sell in racks at supermarkets., oh dear!

Now this gets you thinking. Hate to admit that first single ever owned was Are you Ready Now but cant even remember who it was by, then a run of Sweet singles naturally given the era, can't recall the first 'Punk' single as such but for favourites must go with You can be You by Honey Bane; Oh Bondage up Yours; Playground Twist and Shaved Women. Plus a plethora of Fall singles (great for parties in the early 80's) and Simply Thrilled Honey by Orange Juice, a single I gave back to someone who gave it to me as a present then spent a couple of decades trying to get a copy of it - still eludes me to this day. Singles. Didnt you just love em? How I miss my old stack em up play em loud player in the sanctuary of my southend bedsit.

I was always too skint, so used to borrow them off mates and tape them with an old fashioned recorder........and yes, it was very grainy with my Mum shouting "do you want a cup of tea" half way through my recording LOL, so would have to start again!
Not going to say what my first ever single was (think Rolf Harris LOL) but, my proudest purchase as a grown-up was The Clash - White Riot......it was white vinyl and cost a mint....still got it in the loft somewhere, along with all me other stuff
