First single I bought was "Can the Can" by Suzi Quatro, there`s something about a young leather clad woman playing a bass guitar. I think the first punk single I got was "Looking through Gary Gilmores Eyes " by The Adverts, saw them at the Queens Hotel in Westcliff in 77 or 78, can`t remember. There`s something about a leather clad young woman playing a bass guitar. Hi Sue!

Records eh singles n Lp's mention those words these days and you get one of those what the F%$£ you on about looks. Brought my first SINGLE in Woolworth's Roxy Music's Pyjamarama!!! which bolstered my collection of a cassette recorded by an older cousin (c90 i think) of Don't shoot me I'm only the piano player by an Elton John what ever became of him?
Any one who came to my humble err hovel abode in North Rd may recall my ever growing collection which grew during my employment at the local radio station in the early to mid 80's, well if they weren't going to play them i might as well. put them to good use on a Wednesday night at that little club half way down the high street, of which the name escapes me, Ashamed to say sold the lot at Roots hall market in 89 to pay for a wedding, the marriage lasted no longer than my 12" remix of love will tear us apart.

'Neat, Neat, Neat'.
I can't remember first other single; I'd like to say it was something by Bowie or Roxy, but it is as likely to have been 'Ernie the Fastest Milkman in the West'.

First single I 'got' was a tape of Mark's 'Neat Neat Neat' (see above). First one I ever bought - from Downtown Records in Basildon, from their 'picture sleeve' wall was Chelsea's 'Right To Work'.
I kinda bought it misguidedly. Looking back, I was disapointed not only by the song title (which I naiively thought meant 'right to work' - as in 'wrong to be a layabout' not about having a human right to labor), but also by the band's name - I think I vaguely thought that it would be sung by Peter Osgood rather than Gene October.
I played it about 3 times, but kept it until 2005 when I sold all my old singles to the Record Exchange in Leigh. I bet it's still there.

Ha - I remember how much Tony hated 'Right to Work' and how glad we both were when Gene October bought it in 'Jubilee'.

First Punk single for me was Tommy Gun. What a f*****g tune! Life was never the same after that. First ever buy was Bowie's Drive in Saturday rapidly followed by Aladdin Sane album. So long ago yet so clear. Paul
