Sad to hear of Dave Hoy's passing. I first encountered him in the early 1980's in his capacity as live soundman for The Sinyx at the time. He was also one of the first people I knew whom had a 4-Track Reel to Reel recorder, and with this he recorded many local bands, including The Sinyx, Kronstadt Uprising, Allegiance to No One and Sonic Violence. A Billericay based punk band called Traitor were also recorded by Dave.
From my experience Dave was a gentle soul, and passionate about music. Before embarking upon his time recording bands on his 4 track, he'd been a roadie for Dr Feelgood, and the last time I saw him he was making various leather clothes, especially waistcoats.
R.I.P. Dave and thanks for everything.

A man of many talents, played bass, guitar and keyboards, skilled electrician, if you wanted your hi-fi souping up he was the man to do it, although it could be a long winded process as he'd get distracted reading science-fiction or rebuilding something else. I remember a Wasp keyboard from Maplin which got re-configured and he also knocked up a a computer animation that reacted to sound on an early Amstrad, that involved doing all the coding and programming yourself, formidable. A David Bowie fan, born out of seeing him for the first time at The Arts Lab at The Towngate Theatre. Probably didn't do as much as he was capable of, he did make loads of music, home recorded playing all the instruments himself.
