Dave Thompson's excellent book on Punk is certainly worth investigation. 'London's Burning: True Adventures on the Front Lines of Punk, 1976-1977', to give it its full title, is well written, very engaging and worth reading even if just for his descriptions of seeing Patti Smith on the Old Grey Whistle Test and then of her incendiary performance at The Roundhouse in 1976. As an extra incentive, the book is packed with exclusive memorabilia and never seen before photographs, and it certainly sends the reader straight off to You Tube to look for some footage of The Rings!
