Great night seeing The Slits at The Arts Centre in Colchester the other night. It was the first date on their October 2009 tour and the band really played well. Nowadays Ari-Up on vocals and Tessa Pollitt on Bass are the only original members, but this regenerated version of the band wasn't to be found lacking, and the infusion of new members has injected a great spirit into the band. The keyboard player is, I think, Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols daughter Hollie Cook, and she seemd to be enjoying every second of the gig. It's refreshing to see a band so engaging and uplifting, and with Ari-Up leading the band forward, they managed to really soar. Tessa's bass playing was outstanding I must say too. Songs I particularly enjoyed included 'Shoplifting' (played twice!), 'I Heard it Through The Grapevine' (aka 'I Heard it Through The Bassline'), 'Typical Girls' and 'Vindicitive'. To see a great clip of The Slits recorded on the night by Gary Get, please visit: www.southendpunk.com/html/slitscol.htmlFor more information, please visit: www.myspace.com/theslits

Glitter, stardust in dull, camp form. Hero are you out there, or are you just a shadow?

Eh? I didn't know the Slits were playing! I would have gone along if I'd known, I was in London at around 8 last night as well on the way home from Aldershot
