Long gone establishments; The Royale in Queens Road - best caff going. The caff in the old Bus station in London Road. The Tavern In The Town - cheesiest crushed velvet seating and bad beer going and always seemed to have skinheads going to the loo in pairs... brilliant jukebox and Michael the barman who had a name badge spelled; Micheal. The Royal Stores at the top of Pier Hill with all the tables and chairs made from barrels. The Bottom Alex. Quadrant Stationers for all your DIY taping accessories. The Rossi kiosk for Camel non-filters and the girl with the enormous......assets. The hexagonal flowerbeds. Keddies for Subbuteo teams, things that "fell into bags" and use of their staff bogs. The Kanty Grill...I could go on, but I've just bored myself to tears.
Oh, and Guy Norris let me have a go on his motorbike once.

Yes I do! She was a rather big butch lady with a loud Geordie accent and I had the distinct impression that she was gay. I always thought there was something rather tokenisic about her and she now she only has the distinction of only being remembered by me....

I remember that coffee shop, you could smell the coffee wafting out, whatever happened to that? and the bar on the Southend central station, I always used to attract all the down and outs whenever I went in there for some reason!

Ah, the coffee emporium down the high street was called 'Planters' wasn't it? As you say, the staggering aroma of all the coffee beans as they wafted out of the shop was amazing!
The bar at the station I tend to think of is The Monk and Fisherman at Southend Victoria Station. A great source of many a Lager and Black before a gig at Focus (or anytime for that matter!)
The place I'm trying to recall more on, for a potential new addition to the site (probably with the same title as this thread - 'Places') is Barons in Leigh (where the Elms is now). Many great gigs happened there, and I'm sure I remember punk nights there circa 1980 or so, on a Wednesday night or something?

Oh thats it, Planters! No the bar I was talking about was on Southend Central Station (not Southend Victoria), it was a bit of a dive as it goes! But you could get a nice cup of tea in there!

The bouncers were a bit "eager" but it wasn't a bad place. I spent New Year's Eve 1980 sitting outside...... but that's another story.

Where was Planters? I remember the bar on the station - always smelled of old men's trousers and spitty roll ups. (And no, I'm not going to explain why I know what old men's trousers smell like). On the lunchtime circuit with The Royal, Nasty and the flowerbeds...
