Finally saw the film 'Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains' last night, and I can see now why there has been lots of talk about it over the years. The Fabulous Stains feature Diane Lane and Laura Dern, and they are on a tour in America with The Looters, a fictional UK punk band featuring Ray Winstone on Vocals (he's surprisingly good!), Paul Simonon on Bass, Steve Jones on Guitar and Paul Cook on Drums. They basically play several Professionals songs and it sounded to me like Ray doing his own Vocals, a kind of Jimmy Pursey-esque sneer (and no one - apart from maybe Ben Kingsley! - would stop him!). Also on the tour were Fee Waybill from The Tube's band 'The Metal Corpses'.
The Stains also lead a new movement - 'Skunks' - based on their hairstyle, and have the maxim 'We don't put out!' and because of their two hair stripes they are also known as White Stripes! The film reminded me a bit of Breaking Glass, but that film deserves a thread of its own.
Definitely worth tracking down!
