Sad to hear of the passing of Tony Wilson (20.02.50 - 10.08.07). As well as founding Factory Records and The Haçienda nightclub, he managed A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column, was a journalist, radio presenter, TV show host, impresario and journalist for Granada Television and the BBC. It was, however, in his capacity as host of seminal '70s program 'So It Goes' that he will be most remembered by many of us.
After seeing the Sex Pistols at the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall, in June 1976, an experience which he described as "nothing short of an epiphany", he booked them for the second series, wherein the Pistols performed Anarchy in The UK, which was the first time most of us had seen them.
A brilliant VHS video was released a few years back (see tracklist below) then on DVD, compiling some of the finest musical moments of the show, and thanks to Tony Wilson's brilliant booking, it represents some of the best TV coverage of punk of the era.
