SouthendPunk.com is putting out an APB to see if anyone can confirm or deny if this is legendary Southend Punk girl Karen Williams (and friend) in the photo that was used on the cover of a recent Mojo CD, and was featured as one of the key shots in Janette Beckman's book 'Made in The UK - The Music of Attitude 1977 - 1983'. We're pretty certain it is, but our memory cells aren't what they were! Click the link below for more details: www.southendpunk.com/html/karenwil.html

I'm pretty sure that is her, just the fact she has a Clash t shirt on makes me certain, as Karen loved them. The other girl looks familiar too.

I showed this picture to Andy Lewis and he said straightaway that it's Karen Williams, on the left, and Angela Gleewood, who at one time both lived in Hornby Road/Close (?) out by The Bell. Karen has lived in Manchester for some time, she met a bloke from up there but Angela died of a drugs overdose 10 or more years ago. Karen also shared a flat by The Top Alex with Vivky Williams which is mentioned in the press section.

Thanks for the info and for clarifying that it was in fact Karen Williams. We were 99% certain but it's good to hear it confirmed. I had heard Angela had died, but couldn't place the face to be honest. R.I.P.
If Karen ever reads Mojo or sees Janette's book I think she'll get quite a surprise. As Andi says, we hope Vicky gets in touch, as those three were certainly some of Southend's pioneering Punk girls!
