I'd just like to say thanks to everyone who came down last night and helped make SouthendPunk.com's Celebration of 30 Years of Punk such an enjoyable event. The day started as artist China Doll, together with Mr Atomic and Sophia of Noisy Zine, myself and later Blitzkreig Bob took some of the 100 Punks artworks to Hadleigh Castle, The Kursaal, Focus Youth Centre and finally the beach via some Fish and Chips on the seafront. Author Alex Ogg and partner Dawn later turned up to sign copies of his excellent No More Heroes, and with a background of fantastic sounds the event really took off. RetroSpex/The Convicted helped kick the event off in style blasting out greats such a 'Runaway and 'Didn't Make It', before RetroSpex played such perennial greats as Shot by Both Sides. Following more fantastic sounds - Richard Hell/Speedball/Iggy/Ramones/Heartbreakers etc, The Machines took to the stage, for the first time in Southend since 1978, and only the second time since they reformed last year. Nick Paul led us, as all the True Life ep, 'Racing', and many other Machines songs such as 'Weekend', 'Girl In Black', 'Cyclone', 'Parents Zone', 'Chain Gang' etc were cranked out, and after a rousing reception, encored with the aforementioned 'True Life' and Machines classic 'Don't be Fooled'. The Only Ones, Generation X, Wire etc were the sounds that played out the night as people enjoyed the artworks etc and all too soon it was over. Thanks again to everyone who came and helped make such a magical night Steve NB Sophia has posted an excellent overview of the day at noisyzine.livejournal.com/80776.html?#cutid1 Please view for more details and some great shots.

Really sorry I couldn't make it, I really wanted to go but managed to f**k my back up the day before trying to move a fallen tree that was far too big. I was still going to go along but was in too much pain by the evening so went to bed instead... Who was it said that old punks don't die, they just get gippy backs and have early nights instead...
