Southend Punk was saddened to hear of the passing of Shane MacGowan. (25th December 1957 – 30th November 2023). Born in Kent, England, to Irish parents, he was the lead singer and songwriter of The Pogues, who foremd in Kings Cross, London in 1982. He was also a member of early UK Punk band The Nipple Erectors (who split in the early '80s and briefly reformed for a legendary 100 Club gig in 2008), Shane MacGowan and the Popes, and also produced a lot of his own material and collaborted with many artist including Joe Strummer who called Shane 'one of the finest writers of the century'.
