The Doctors of Madness played in Southend and the surrounding area a few times, including even a later appearance at the infamous 1977 'City Rock' Punk festival. I wondered if anybody here saw The Doctors at any point (maybe at The Kursaal in '76, for example?) and what their impressions were?

Hi saw Doctors of Madness supporting the excellent Be Bop Deluxe at the Kursaal in 76.I was new to gigs then and hadn't seen anything like them before.Pretty good tho' ahead of their time.Remember one song was something like Mainline to hell

Hi Ian, sounds a seminal gig! I wonder if the Doctors song you mention is Mainlines from 'Late Night Movies All Night Brainstorms'? There's a great site on them at: www.doorag.f9.co.uk/doctorsofmadness/Be Bop Deluxe I mainly remember for the 'Axe Victim' album - never saw them live, but 'Jet Silver And The Dolls Of Venus' has to be a contender for one of the greatest song titles!
