A Special Gallery has been added to the site of Southend Carnival - 16.08.80 - when The Sinyx played on Nasty's Float in the Carnival Procession. Southend Punk.com would like to thank Ray Ellis (who took all the shots) for the use of these photos and Angela Smith, who scanned the negatives. www.southendpunk.com/html/carnival.html

Excelent photos from a wonderful day! IIRC the Young Liberals were on the float behind us, and subjected to much undeserved abuse, or is that false memory syndrome? I also seem to remember that a New Crimes banner was hanging from the Nastys float, but can't see any sign of it in the photos so maybe that is also false memory syndrome. Ray, if you are reading this, these photos are a fantastic piece of photojournalism, on a par with Roger Mayne's street photos of west London in the 50s and 60s www.rogermayne.com/work.html in my humble opinion, you've really captured the spirit of the event and the time. Funny, I sort of remember the day being in black and white as well, as were all of the late 70s/early 80s...

Great pic,s of the Nasty day. I missed the morning gig, but went down in the eve only to be grabbed by Paul Eves and made to play with the Decibels. He got his dick out and was waving it at the crowd. I still have the Evening Echo editorial about that day.

Must have been a slow news day as Paul Eve's getting his Dick out was a pretty regular occurence IIRC

The photos are great! If Ray has any other photos from the time, he must share them!
I remember seeing it from the crowd (ok, I know, I must really have had nothing better to do that day!) and being jealous of everyone involved.
