Southend Punk was saddened to hear of the passing of the legendary Nik Turner, aged 82. (26th August 1940 – 10th November 2022). Primarily known for his saxophone playing, vocals and songwriting, Nik was a key member of Hawkwind in their early years, and co-wrote three of the band's classic songs - 'Shouldn’t Do That', 'Master of the Universe' & 'Brainstorm'.
After Nik's time with Hawkwind (Who he played in Southend with), he played in several other bands, a key one being Inner City Unit (ICU), with whom he played in Southend with several times in the 1980s - at venues including The Queens Hotel in 1985 (Click here to see flyer) and The Pink Toothbrush.
