Southend Punk was saddened to hear of the passing of Howie Pyro, aged 61. Howie was best known as a founding member of New York City punk band D Generation. Jesse Malin, Pyro’s close friend and bandmate in D Generation, confirmed in a statement that Pyro died from COVID-19-related pneumonia on May 4th, 2022 following a long battle with liver disease. Born Howard Kusten on June 28th, 1960, in Whitestone, Queens, he adopted the moniker Howie Pyro around the age of 15. In 1991, Malin, Pyro, guitarist Danny Sage, drummer Michael Wildwood, and guitarist Richard Bacchus came together to form D Generation. The band released the classic album 'No Lunch' in 1996, which featured the immortal track 'No Way Out'. R.I.P.
