I still have the Machines EP, but I think you've already got that... Does anybody know how John Dearlove (John Dee) is keeping BTW?

John Dee is still alive, and as well as can be expected, he's touched that someone somewhere still remembers The Machines EP and the various bands he's been in. He's keeping a very low profile these days and doesn't go out much at all but, he will try and keep his eye on things in cyberspace.

If anyone is interested, there's a killer blog site that has three tracks from The Machines EP posted as mp3 files up for free downloading. While your there check out the other obscurities on the site. Here's the link www.kbdrecords.com/?p=227

Please pass on my found regards to John. I will never forget his innovative and rock solid drumming when I played bass in 'Charas'. I was a total novice, and most times it was only his beat that kept me on the ball and made me sound halfway decent. Other memories of John include his crazy dancing and that bloody space drum he acquired and played to death! I wonder if the site has room for a 'Reggae' section? Bands like The Clash, Ruts and SLF got me into it, as they did many others. No. 6, Charas, Tallowah, Bushfire and Smartie all featured the talented all round great bloke Si Standon, alive and well and living in Westcliff, last I heard.

Ahh, John Dee. Did he sell his soul to the devil at some crossroads out in Hadleigh sometime, he went from The Machines and The Shocks where he was an all action human octopus obviously influenced by Rat Scabies, to this fantastic drummer in Charas etc. who held the whole thing together, I used to be amazed at how it seemed like he'd lost the beat and would come in late but he'd come in, seemingly in plenty of time and make it look/sound easy. A reggae section would be another topic probably outside of this site, but it would still involve the same people.

Have a heart, MP3 downloads, compilation albums playing fast and loose with The Machines EP tracks, Nick Paul should be the richest man in Essex, credited songwriter and copyright holder but for all we know he could be no better off than the buskers under the railway bridge knocking out Oasis and Pink Floyd hits, after you've got the MP3, drop a few pennies in the giutar case, just in case.

OK, lets set things straight. I am extremely happy to report I am alive and well and not playing Pink Floyd or Oasis hits under the bridge in the High St. I'm more fascinated by 'Saliva' the scary clown!
Even if I was that skint I have my pride and would rather smash up my guitars, put them in a dustbin and set fire to them, than subject them to that! Playing that shite is third degree Guitar Crime and should carry a 20 year stretch of listening to a loop tape of Chas and Dave!
It is true that the Machines didn't quite finance that beach house on a Greek Isle (or in fact a decent dustbin) but it was fun! Anyway....the games not over yet, he said enigmatically....
