Hi Sue, Yes living on Canvey but not through choice! Not the place it used to be. Moved off the Mud in '85 when I got married and moved to Leigh on Sea. Managed a couple of local bands the did reasonably well. Caplo Banaal and High Society/Ava Raj. Split up with my wife 4 years ago and moved back to Canvey to be with my new partner who I actually went out with at school when I was 14 years old!
Saw Mark Salkeld last probably late 80's early 90's. Have not seen any of the other original Vicars line up, or any of the latter members since I stopped playing in 1980/81
The rivalry with Deenos Marvels/Rubies was always friendly... well almost! Only had a punch-up with Deeno once. Always got on OK with Cranny Andy Westy though. Ollie Burton is the only person I have seen on and off over the years. He was also in Caplo Banaal when I was managing them.
It's amazing reading the posts on this site and remembering so many names. The hard part is putting a name to a face. That is going to be even harder now some 30 years later.
Hope to see you Easter Sunday. I'm sure I will recognise you. Hope to recognise most that will be there, although I'm sure time hasn't been kind to all of us!

Hi Kirk, I think maybe you would probably recognise me as although we are all 30 years older I dont actually look that far removed from my old self.... well...I still have short fairly spikey hair anyway! Maybe see you there.

G'day Kirk, great days following you guys around as the Vicars. Remember me, Peanut and Copper? (The Icons) Used to hang with John Edwards and Big Jimmy. Great memories of gigs all over town, especially at shrimpers. Seem to remember you playing for Snivlin Shits when they came to town?

I seem to remember you starting off following the Vicars around and then forming bands yourself. Is that right? If so, glad were were of some influence. As for playing with the Snivlin Shits... not me mate. Where did you get that from? Are you going to the gig this Sunday? Gonna go and tap some memories and look up some old names/faces.

It was Deano that played with the Snivelling Shits.
I also have great memories of the Vicars. The first time I saw them was in the pre-Alf days supporting the Banned at Shrimpers. Lipsmackin' ....

yeah thats right, it was Deno. Gary, did you know us (copper, filf, peanut ,john)? Kirk, yeah the Vicars were a big inspiration to us along with many others. You had a great set and a really tight sound. are there any demo's around? Would love to hear something from back then. Im living in Australia now so missing all these re-unions!

Only in the sense that I used to go to your gigs. My friend Gerard even made his own Icons t shirt. There's a picture of him wearing it in Gallery 2.

hallo to all, just recently stumbled upon this site brilliant to see all those old names, faces and happenings rising like a what d ya call it from the ashes. I was the drummer in the vicars and the screamin abdabs, and i might add the author of the timeless vicars mk 1 classics "bring down the price of beer" and "we want longer opening hours" what a double b side that would have made! I remember filf and the icons boys,it may interest you to know i still see big jimmy all the time hes now on his 57th marriage and lost count of how many kids he has about 12 years ago. Many happy memories of gigging with alf, you just gave her a song, lit the blue touch paper, retired to a safe distance and waited for the explosion, easiest job in the world! Hallo to kirk, cant believe i havent bumped into you considering size of canvey, saw mark s bout a year ago hasnt changed physically or mentally.Lastly saw the spurts on youtube cant get "watch out theres a thief about" out of me napper, any plans for a release chaps? Micky Ogden.

Micky Ogden, used to be in "Coronation Street" running a pub with a woman who looks like Brian May, or something like that. The hardest working man in cyber space might post a Screaming Ab Dabs set list next round of updates, as near as you'll get these days, unless tapes in garden sheds emerge. The list includes "Shame shame shame" which Tony Cranney now sings in his latest band Snake Oil, you can listen to him sing here, www.myspace.com/snakeoilstyle. Steve West has The Bluesonics and The Big Rhythm and plays with Big Joe Louis and Jerimiah Marques, Andy Stevens no one seems sure, moved up north is the most you'll get.
