Hi all
Just wondered if anybody has any 86 mix material they could copy me?
I had a tape of one of their demo's years ago but I went to visit a friend up north who used to live in Westcliff, took the tape with me and somehow managed to lose it. I loved this band, and I know its a long shot, but if anybody has anything by them, please e mail me at 'dontdoubttherowt@hotmail.co.uk'.
Thanks for reading.

My google search didnt bring this up too readily, so I missed the MySpace for these. Thats wicked. Songs dont seem to be playing at the moment but that might be my laptop. Will try again another day.

86-Mix also taped a load of stuff, rehearsals, in Westcliff I think, 2 nights at The Alex, one from Sid's/Zhigavos, a discotheque, some sort of ancient gathering place, a bit like Stonehenge, no trace of them now but plenty of 86-Mix out there, somewhere.

I keep in touch with Chris Kemp from 86 Mix (bass player) and occasionally meet up for drinks in London, he now lives in Peterborough, married with a son called William who likes cricket. Chris is still a big 'fan' of The Fall. Julian Ware Lane (guitar) is a Labour Party activist and has stood for election locally a couple of times, and frequently has 'why oh why' type letters published in the local press, I don't know what became of Jeff Danahay and Gary Evident however. After 86 Mix split they were in a more jazzy outfit called Red Rags (named after an 86 Mix song) for a while.

Jeff is in Glasgow and Gary is in Brighton (as far as I can recall). 'Red Rags' was written by me, somewhat ironically.

Why oh why did 86 Mix ever split up. I blame the unions. Something should be done.

it's been interesting reading the posts, i'm amazed that there are still fans out there.grew up on this music, although that's due to the fact that gary evident is my brother.early post was correct, gary is down in brighton, has been for about 18-19 years.we have a few tapes floating around, one of which, i think, is from a demo at denmark st. studios.the post 86 mix incarnation red rags played one of their 1st gigs in romford in the early 80s.kim was lead singer, and they had a percussionist called rik.i will check what 86 mix material we have between us and post the info as soon as i know

Sorry for late reply clipclap, yes I now have some demo's that Julian from the band was kind enough to sort out for me. I have heard the first side so far, and its every bit as good as I remember it. Looking forward to hearing the rest of it. Great band.

well hello clipclap and others. my son came across this messageboard and I'm surprised that there is still someone out there interested and actually remembers 86M. i .was the drummer and have fond memories of the band that period in my life. I see the Get are playing again . It's interesting that the music that inspired us back then (Fall, Fire Engines, Josef K) has been through it's renaissance recently and I still listen to some of the stuff and saw the Fall again very recently and have tckets for XX and john Cooper Clarke. Alas I've lost contact wiht the other band members. i don't do anything musically anymore, although my son plays drums and jams with alot of his friends, almost mandatory for teenegaers in Brighton - not a bad thing of course. Er......that's it......she is too much the barman.

Hi Gary,
Nice to hear from you! 86 Mix are getting a lot of interest on this site and I really think that this band should appear on a Messthetics release as they would be ideal canditates. Both Stripey Zebras and The Get did.
Yes The Get are performing live and back in the studio, I still can't play my bass, but, hey somethings never change.

Hi all. My son and I transferred a lot of 86-mix songs to mp3 and then burned to CD. I have sent some to Jeff D, Graham B, Steve D and Julian. I still have the files though they are on a dodgy laptop but I could still have a go at getting at them. I'm in touch with Jeff via email who is now in Glasgow and Julian is on facebook. I was in touch with Gary for a while though another pcv broke and I lost his email. Gary - be good to hear from you. I recently went to see The Slits with Steve Dobson and saw The Get in Leigh-On-Sea in the summer. I work in London and see Graham and Steve from time to time. I live outside Peterborough.

Hi Chris and all. I do have demo and rehearsal stuff on tape and I think that I've got the original demo 8 (16?)track somewhere. It would be good to e-mail and also have contact with JEFF - did you see his letter in the Guardian mag about Twiggy some weeks ago ? - as it has been a very long time. I'm occasionally in Leigh on sea as stil have friends there. Maybe a 2010 meet. 86 reunion gig ? My son could sit in for me on drums as he a much better drumer that i ever was. Saw Ellen Jewell recently and off to see Bad Leutenant and Count Arthur Strong in next couple of weeks, Son seeing Bloc party, Does it offend you, Yeah and Muse.
Good to hear from you Graham and Steve. Messthethics - tell me more ?
