Sad to hear of the passing of Guy Norris on 16.10.08. I remember his shop well in the precinct, and it was a great source of punk records back in the day. Not sure if my mind is playing tricks, but I'm sure I remember a TV monitor in the shop that would show music related clips? At some point I'll try to add in some interviews to the site re punk friendly shops of the era, until then there's www.southendpunk.com/html/theshops.htmlRIP Guy

yes at the time (1977) it was very exciting to see music videos in the shop, even though it was the same ones over and over again!
A couple of years later Steve Dobson and I spent may happy hours watching the Residents 'Moisture' (Snail In Purse) video over and over again...

It was Magazine's The Light Pours Out of Me video that stands out in my memory. I remember going to Guy Norris to buy the first Buzzcocks album and being 10p short but I bumped into my art teacher and he lent me the money. He was a nice guy (but not called Norris!) - he went to college with the Rezillos. He went to see them live and got me Jo Callis's autograph.

Sad to hear the news, I was the manager of his Eastham shop in the Seventies and if anyone can fill me in on what he was up to after he packed in the Shops I would be so grateful. Just for the record (ouch) I was at Guy Norris Eastham from 1975 to 1978 and the punk scene was pretty big at the time. i used to import stuff from the States but there was also a shop called Moondogs who did the same if i remember.

I also worked at East ham guy Norris 77-78, and I'm pretty sure I know who's written that they were the manager!
I remember getting the punk vinyl in. Started off as a box on the counter with a few singles and grew from that. I remember on my first day (16 yr old) looking through the 20p singles box and finding some pistols anarchy 7"! Bought them up!
Working there as punk started couldn't be beaten, getting all the new stuff in from obscure labels and imports from a company called Caroline. So many memories
