Legendary Southend Punk band The Machines are playing their first gig in 28 years at The Boston Arms, Tufnell Park, London on Sunday September 10th 2006. The gig is a launch party organised by Bin Liner Records to celebrate the release of 'Bored Teenagers Volume Four' which features two rare tracks by The Machines:
'You Better Hear' (Pre-'True Life' EP version) + 'Racing' (never before released). Both were recorded live in 1977 in a barn in Essex by a friend of the band.
The Machines (2006) are:
* Nick Paul (Machines / Raw Power) - Vocals + Guitar
* Steve Reddihough (Raw Power) - Bass + Backing Vocals
* Steve Pegrum - (Kronstadt Uprising / Sinyx) - Drums
In 2006 Nick Paul and Steve Reddihough linked up with Steve Pegrum to play some key Punk Rock 'n' Roll songs that hadn't been heard in a long time. These songs include 'True Life', 'Evening Radio', 'You Better Hear', 'Everything's Technical', 'Chain Gang', 'Parents Zone' , 'Racing' and 'Head on Crash', as well as one or two new songs. The Machines split in 1978 before most people had a chance to see them. Now that is no longer the case, and on September the 10th 2006, for the first time in 28 years, the above songs will reverberate once more.

If there's enough interest, how about organising a coach or something? I see the Ordinarys are playing as well. Weren't they the punk band that "bravely" appeared on New Faces?

I was at the Boston Arms (Dirty Water Club) on Friday to see the Buff Medways. I hope they have the same dj when the Machines play. The band finished around midnight and it then turned into a club until 3am playing a mix of punk classics (Ramones, Pistols, Buzzcocks, Damned, X Ray Sex, etc), 60s garage (Count 5, Love, etc) and 60s girl bands (Ok, not my specialist subject but great stuff!)

How did it go? I would have loved to have been there, but it wasn't to be.

The Machines would like to thank everyone that made the Bin Liner 'Bored Teenagers Volume 4' launch party at The Boston Arms, Tufnel Park, London a reality last night, especially Dizzy for putting the whole thing together in the first place. All the bands were excellent and it was a pleasure to play alongside The Ordinarys, The Plague and The Steroid Kiddies.
It was fantastic that everyone made the effort to come and managed to transcend the obstacles fate sought to throw yesterday - from the vicissitudes of Train Travel on the Fenchurch Street Line, through to the nightmare of various Tube lines being down, and thus consequent road chaos and long traffic queues...finally to be crowned with a colossal power cut in the Tufnel Park area that led there to being no power between 3:00pm - 7:00pm! Thankfully all was subsequently surmounted and everyone that turned up helped make it a fantastic evening!
The Steroid Kiddies and The Plague really stormed the place with their '77 era songs and helped generate a great atmosphere, The Machines then played their blitzkrieg set and generated real steam heat - It was very special to be playing 'You Better Hear', 'True Life', 'Everythings Technical', 'Evening Radio', 'Racing', 'Chain Gang', 'Cyclone', 'Parents Zone' again, as well as being able to debut a few new songs - 'Pirate Times', 'Sue This Song' and 'The Girl in Black' - the latter of which is dedicated to Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan, Joey, Dee and Johnny Ramone and to Joe Strummer.
The Ordinarys were fantastic and really kept the spirit of '79 alive - cool guys and a great sound - Definitely recommended!
Thanks again to everyone who came and made it a night to remember.

With the success of the re-union the question has to be asked, what has happened to The Machines ? You'd expect a warm up date in London then down here as quickly as possible.
Rumour has it that when they were on their Pacific Island The Rolling Stones said don't play twice in the UK in the same financial year otherwise they'll have you for tax, also, keep away from trees.
Surely men of their experience can think of something, after all it was them who told us that "You better hear".
