I have no pics to contribute but I`d like to endorse what Billyb said.
To me Punk was/is about self expression. For example, I`m a half wit (some might say quarter wit) with the memory of a goldfish and all my posts are stupid.........but that`s me.
If you view the site you must have something to say. So say it.

Cheers for the endorsement but I er - was a bit "tired and emotional" when I did that post...
I would have deleted it but it had been responded to.
I wouldn't agree that all your posts are stupid, by the way.

He may have meant "Most" of his posts are stupid....But then, examining the thing from another angle, he might not have,....Guitarists are notoriously difficult birds to intrepata....tripanetrate...antrenaptate.....make sense of, and that.

Saw Nic and Andi at the Steve Ignorant gig at the Shepards Bush Empire last November - they were saying that they are planning to move to Spain and hopefully set up an organic gardening/permaculture teaching centre.

Hi Guys - Dic York here from Sta Prest - still playing, but around Norwich now unfortunately - although I have asked for a slot at Sundown.
Note we are missing from the mix a tad - and in the School Bullies section Clive kemp was shown as forming Cry Dyaan and Jacal - both my bands actually, playing old Sta prest songs.

Hello Dic I am Sue from the Vandals, you may or may not remember me , but I used to adore Sta Prest. I mostly remember the Kingstons though, (before they went on to take over the music world like the mafia) do you know anything about what Ray and Bob are up to these days ?

Hi Hugh
You do indeed detect the work of Steve! Glad you've been enjoying the site as it does represent an hour or two of work!
If you check the 'Pre-Punk Discussion' area there's been some Doctors chat - I'm hopeful there'll be some photos out there somewhere of their Southend gigs.

Hi everyone,
This site brings back so many memories for me. I left Southend in 87 and moved to Bristol. People I used hang around with are many. From about 79-84 I used to go to Crocs, then it turned into Pink Toothbrush etc...
I used to be in a pretty lame punk/electro band called Helana Hex, we played at focus and I seem to remember someone setting off a fire extinguisher on us. When we played at the Queens Hotel in Westcliff, we pulled the ceiling down ;-)
Anyway - people I used to hang around with are, Steve Adkins (great friend at that time), Sue (who joined the medics), Wendi who after having brief very short relationship with me shacked up with Mark Bristow.
Stuart, who used to love the Cramps and his parents used to live near the Bell Pub (i think in Rochford).
Natalie Duffield, who moved to Belgium for some spurious reason - good memories of Natalie.
Also I remember Staurt Emmerton, I seem to remember that he had lots of energy and loved fashion...
I remember filth, michelle, janis who used to go out with Simon Fisher.
Graham - the now permaculture guy.
I still have not mentioned hardly enough people from that period. Say Hello...

Hello Marc, I remember you - I was at College at the same time as you in 1984. I used to be really good mates with Anthony who was in Helana Hex with you (along with Paul Mills etc...) I remember seeing a really interesting painting of yours that Jamie Godsafe commissioned you to do!!! Are you still painting - you were quite good as I recall... Yeah - I think I also worked at Amstrad for a short time with your brother... It's good to see you on here... All the Best Bill

Hi Bill, Great to receive an answer already today... Well, I did carry on painting until late eighties/early nineties, but more involved with hacking, pirate radio and art that used the internet. Here is a link to a gallery I now co-run, in London - www.http.uk.net called HTTP Gallery, and the networked art collective I also co-run called furtherfield - www.furtherfield.orgMy family are still in southend and i visit every now and then. I am good friends with MediaShed lot, do you know them? They are based in Southend... I wonder what happened to Paul Mills and the then 'Sin Fein' obsessed Anthony the drummer of Helana Hex? Amstrad, I remember that Steve Adkins used to work for them as well. Good to hear from you bill:-0 wishing you well. marc

Certainly get your money's worth of nostalgia here- reactivated a lot of brain cells I thought were long dead.

Hi Alien, good to see your still around. Yeah this site gives me sleepless nights sometimes trying to remember people and events. From listening to Crass with yourself, Auntie and John in the SEEVIC common room to playing in the abandoned chuch in North Islington with the Mob or heading down to Stonehenge, i can remember about 2 weeks worth of the whole 7 years that i was involved in the Southend punk scene.
