I wonder if anyone can help solve a mystery here at SouthendPunk.com - Below are two links to an article that appeared in The Sunday Times magazine - July 17th 1977. The Photos of the 'Happy group of punks enjoying a joke at a Punk Ball' on the cover and on the other image are, according to the text underneath image 2, taken of fans at The Clash gig at The Chancellor Hall, Chelmsford, 29.05.77 on the Clash's 'White Riot' tour. However, the text accompanying the article mainly refers to a gig in Newcastle that occurred 9 days earlier. I therefore wondered if anyone here knows or recognises any of the punks in the photographs and could categorically confirm whether the shots were taken in Chelmsford or Newcastle, for the Chelmsford Clash gig is certainly one of the most important Essex Punk gigs of the era. Thanks in advance. The links are: Image 1 - Sunday Times Front Cover www.southendpunk.com/html/sundayt1.htmlImage 2 - Sunday Times Inside Picture www.southendpunk.com/html/sundayt2.html

Am pretty sure Copper and Perry and are in those......although couldn't bet me life on it......I do recognise some other faces too but, for the life of me, can't remember their names......
Then again, I could be totally wrong..........this is all blowing my mind at the moment

The mystery has finally been solved, in so far as Pete Frostick (one of the Punks on the cover), via Chelmsford Wild Youth, has confirmed that the photo was indeed taken at The Chancellor Hall when The Clash played there on May 29th, 1977. The Punks are, L-R: Martin Reid, Garry McDowell, Pete Frostick & Mick Bartlett www.southendpunk.com/html/sundayt1.html
