soap was the way to go, but if u had a job and could afford a massive can of hair spay and then use crimpers. ur hair will smoke but hey, it wont kill ya! And i still have a full head of hair. But you should listen to uncle Graham, he is a very wise old man!!

Yup... Soap was the one. Maybe crimpers and hairspray if at yer birds place. I also remember using Country Born setting gel from Boots when the barnet was shorter... and Ultra Blue was the bleach of choice with really strong peroxide.

Crimpers were certainly an essential item I agree (Still like strengtheners - thankfully with ceramic plates now) - there's a unique aroma that crimping a freshly-hairsprayed head of hair produced! Does anyone remember a hair dye from the era called 'Crazy Color'? I seem to remember getting it in York Road market - Canary Yellow, Lime Green and Lilac (not all at the same time) www.southendpunk.com/html/crazycol.html

You can still get crazy color ;D.....dunno where though
I've just had me hair done and was telling my hairdresser about the different hairstyles I used to have from spiky to mohawk........and then I found this site.....spooky!
Yup....it's still there on the market.......think I might go shopping
Food colouring was always a good one though......especially the pink

You need Extra firm hold hairspray and a back-comb (a special comb with different length teeth(?) get a bit of hairspray onto your hair first- to give it some body- then get a clump to form the spike; back-comb it; shape it and twist it; spray it; then dry it with a hair-dryer. Repeat for each spike.
