Detour records want to release demo stuff by The Leepers/Le Mat but need the o.k. from the band, does anybody know how to get in touch with them?

Afraid I don't know how to contact either but whilst having a clean out for a house move yesterday I was surprised to discover two faded - and much handled cassette tapes one called The Leepers Demos and one Le Mat recorded apparently at Polydor and spaceward studios. Funny I didnt even recall they were there. In the box too was one of Graham's New Crimes compilation tapes, well Volume 1 so it says on the box - an absolute bargain for £1.25 which carries the handscribed 'DIY Not EMI'. This being the oft mentioned Stripey Zebras/86 Mix/Sinyx compilation. Great stuff. In another box I found a rather glossy B&W photo of the Leepers standing in front of a Pop Art styled billboard. Don't know what happened that day but the boys all looked very serious . . .

Great find and think they may be the ones ive got maybe in better condition. Could you check sometime to see if there is a song on any of them called " going through the motions" ?that seems to be the missing oneAll in all ive got about 13 tracks that I came by at an Anorexic Dread party in 84 and the lable are chomping at the bit to have them released.

of course . . . assuming years spent in various attics up and down the country haven't eroded its charms . . . Regards Donna

Whilst digging around I also came across a cutting from the evening echo about the gig they did at the London Dungeon, again accompanying pic of lads in their paisley finery is particularly moody . . . I have a feint memory of this trip as a coach went from Southend - I seem to recall this particular outing was where Andy Kerr first introduced me to the delights of poppers. I think Gary Simpson worked in the men's suit shop down Queens Road which I also believe was owned by Steve Wright's Dad. Hmmm . . . not sure - I could be making that one up! Anyway either Gary (or was it Steve Wright's Dad?!) fancied my friend Laura so occasionally we found ourselves in said shop on the way home from school. Such heady times LOL!

Oh the delights of poppers!! I remember when Le Mat were on the front cover of kerrang all dressed up in thier Dickens garb with dust all over them to give that tramp effect, but I cant talk as Puppets Prey made some pretty poor fashion mistakes. They were a good band and along with Speedball were the ones who most deserved to get somewhere so I hope someone tracks them down.

On LeMat/Leepers,i used to see Paul Helmer on the tube a while back, and he said Pete was living in Brighton. He is a bit actor now, saw him a while back in some advert, and he also popped up n a edition of the Bill !! Not sure about Gary. Good band tho, saw them a few times.

Hi All. Pete H here. Very interested in donnap London dungeon cutting and other stuff. Youre right, a coach trip did go up from Southend. My brother got it wrong (?) I'm not living in Brighton, I'm living in London with Jo Clark from Shoebury, she was on that coach! Spoke to Gary Simpson last night who is now a happy dad living in Bournemouth, no longer a mod, he defected to the other side and rides a big hairy bike. they should rename this site - speedheads reunited. x Pete Hemer

Pete - I gave the cutting to Steve along with a few other bits to scan so I guess it will appear on the site in no time at all. If by chance you did need to be reminded of what you sounded like way back then I could do the same with the tapes and if anyone on here can copy them for you then your welcome - assuming as Andi says that you don't have them yourself. Regards Donna.
