Yes, Telstar has been covered by all and sundry, including The Shads in 1981, but the original was the Tornado's, written, recorded and produced by the legendary nutter Joe Meek in his flat above a shop in Holloway rd nth London. Apparently 'Telstar' is one of Mrs Thatcher's favourite records, which puts me off it a bit... Although probably she was being interviewed and asked what modern music she liked - Telstar was probably the most modern, hip and 'happening' down with the kids thing she could she could think of...

I find that a peeled scotch egg is an ideal replacement if you are in a hurry.
