Hi. I know someone has asked already but has anyone a back issue strange stories No 9? I did the cover and would love to have a copy. I've had a lot of work published since but I have to say, nothing has given me quite a thrill as seeing this on this site. Great stuff.

Great to know that the site and seeing Strange Stories #9 has evoked good memories! I only have scans of that issue which I got from Dave Tulloch, and I don't think Richard has any copies either. I can try and see if I can find the scans if you like?
In conjunction with Noisy! fanzine, there are plans to publish a Fanzine compendium, a kind of history of Essex based fanzines from '77 - now. I'm sure I'll get Strange Stories a good section in there, and we'll try and maybe reproduce all the covers (and perhaps some of the infamous 'Talking 'Bout columns from the back!) - I'll keep you posted!

Thanks steve I would like a scan - would really like to make a print of this. But I would really love an original copy.....though I'm not surprised theres none about. Would that be Richard Seager you are talking about?. Would be excellent to be able to view some internal pages. There was a radio 4 show on fanzines recently, it was talking about this show (though it is about sheffield mainly) to a friend that prompted me to search for any news of Strange Stories. www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/zinescene/pip/fcoo1/

Hi, I was a contributor to Strange Stories and later went on to help put out its successor Some Of That with Richard and some friends. I still have a full set of Strange Stories in my posession that Richard gave me when we stopped. I do not have any computer facilities of my own at the moment so I cannot send any scans etc.
BTW Richard's back page special Talkin Bout was full of gossip he collated whilst talking to people at gigs etc and usually in a refreshed state. The details used to get a lost in translation at times!!

Hi - firstly great program on R4 about the 'zines - I had heard about it but missed it, so great to catch up on it. I remember the Sheffield 'zine they mentioned - NMX - but for me (apart from our own 'zines here of course!) one of the very best they didn't mention, and that was Tony D's excellent 'Ripped and Torn' - a great 'zine indeed.
It is indeed Richard Seager of Strange Stories we're talking about. Talking of SS, I seem to remember your name Dave from it's pages. Perhaps you could help me in fact, as I have only ever seen two copies of Some of That, and when I asked Richard how many issues it ran for, he couldn't remember, so do you know? I'd love to see Issue #2 (and Issue #4 + if there are any!) and can scan and add them to the site.
The compendium will feature sections from these, and definitely some of the Talkin' Bout columns!

There were just three issues of Some Of That before we called it a day. It was supposed to be a zine that did stuff other than just music, we did poetry, football (SUFC related of course!) Bikers stuff etc, but in the end Richard had had enough. I have a copy of Issue 2 and will attempt to scan it for you.

Great stuff - be good to see issue #2 of Some of That. The format you're describing I suppose is a lot like what eventually became 'Attitude' fanzine that Richard did. Not sure how many issues it ran for, and I don't recall it mentioning music much, although I seem to remember it often had pictues of The Munsters or Laurel and Hardy on the cover.

I remember Richard called it Attitude because when people bought it he wanted them to ask for it by saying "Can I have an Attitude please"

I lost my copies of Strange Stories years ago I am sorry to say! I used to help sell it in Basildon town centre on a Saturday morning and I think I once wrote an article or drew a cartoon, I can't remember as it was a long bloody time ago! Jeez! I bumped into Richard yesterday and hence found out about this forum and just had to join up! If anyone remembers me it would be great to say 'hi' after all these years. I remember Mark was a real photography expert and I used to be jealous as hell about his camera and lenses, but don't tell him! And Tony was such a cool artist in art class, used to love to see what he would draw or paint! Anyway, I have fond memories of those days, the booze, the music (of course), the friends, the parties, the drugs, the girls (god bless 'em) and so much more! I can even remember all the Anti Nazi league activity I used to get involved in! Trust everyone is good and well!
